Global Markets: ICC issues arrest warrants for Israeli/Hamas officials

  • The International Criminal Court in The Hague, Netherlands, issued arrest warrants for Israeli and Hamas officials on Thursday, accusing them of war crimes and crimes against humanity. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who was included in the arrest warrants, condemned the action and claimed in a statement that “there is nothing more just than the war that Israel has been waging in Gaza.” Israel and the United States are not members of the court, and the warrants may be more symbolic than practical.

  • Canada’s Industrial Product Price Index was up by 1.2 per cent in October compared to the previous month, posting annual gains of 1.1 per cent, reported Statistics Canada. The country’s Raw Materials Price Index was up by 3.8 per cent from September, but still down by 2.8 per cent annually.

 

  • S. prosecutors with the Department of Justice are calling for federal judges to break up Alphabet’s Google to end the company’s monopoly on online search. The 23-page document was filed with federal judges late Wednesday calling for broad changes, including the sale of the Chrome web browser. “Google’s unlawful behavior has deprived rivals not only of critical distribution channels but also distribution partners who could otherwise enable entry into these markets by competitors in new and innovative ways,” said the court filing.
