Glacier FarmMedia — The following is a glance at the news moving markets in Canada and globally.

  • The International Grains Council raised its call on world wheat production in 2025/26 to 808 million tonnes. That was up by two million from the May estimate and compares with 799 million tonnes in 2024/25. The IGC added one million tonnes to its 2025/26 global corn production estimate, now at 1.276 million tonnes, while leaving soybeans unchanged at 428 million tonnes.

  • The U.S. economy slowed in the first quarter of 2025, with the gross domestic product down 0.5 per cent, the Commerce Department reported. That compares with 2.4 per cent growth in the last three months of 2024, and marked the first contraction of the economy in three years.

  • Updated Canadian acreage estimates will be released by Statistics Canada on Friday, with many analysts expecting an increase in canola planting intentions from the 21.6 million acres in the March report. U.S. acreage and stocks data will out on Monday, June 30.
