  • Russia launched 81 missiles at Ukraine on Thursday, which marked one of the biggest aerial assaults in the year-old war. Targets included key infrastructure facilities in Kyiv, Dnipro, Kharkiv, Lviv, Odesa, and Zaporizhzhya. Residential areas were also among those hit and early assessments from Ukrainian officials reported 16 people killed with 20 injured. Ukraine claimed to have shot down 34 of the Russian missiles.

  • United States President Joe Biden said on Wednesday he will call on Congress to impose a minimum 25 per cent tax on billionaires. This was part of the roll-out of the president’s 2023 budget, which will be released on Thursday. One of the provisions Biden has planned to include is cutting the federal deficit by US$3 trillion over the next 10 years.

 

  • At least 36 people were killed on Wednesday and Thursday in the Democratic Republic of Congo village of Mukondi, according to reports. However, other sources placed the death toll at 44. Officials said the attack was carried out by the Allied Democratic Forces, the Ugandan terrorist group based in the DRC that has ties to ISIL. Reports said the most of deaths were the result of homes in Mukondi being set on fire.
