– On the final day of a temporary ceasefire by Israel and Hamas, international mediators worked in Qatar on Wednesday to extend it via the release of Israeli hostages and Palestinian prisoners. Nine women, a teenage girl and two Thai nationals were freed by Hamas on Tuesday, which was followed by Israel releasing 30 Palestinians. There will be one more exchange planned on Wednesday night. So far, 81 hostages have been released by Hamas during the truce, including 60 Israelis. During that time, 180 Palestinians were released by Israel.

– After being trapped for 17 days, 41 workers inside a partially collapsed highway tunnel in northern India were rescued on Tuesday. Numerous failed attempts using heavy machinery were followed by a successful rescue achieved by 24 “rat miners” digging manually through debris. Oxygen, food and medicine were provided to the workers through a small pipe drilled into the tunnel on the same day as the collapse.
– A male crew member from a United States military Osprey aircraft has died after it crashed on Wednesday off the coast of southern Japan. The cause of the crash and the status of the other five people on board were not immediately known. The Japanese military said the Osprey took off from a U.S. Marine Corps Air Station in Japan and crashed en route to Okinawa.
– Finland will shut down its eastern border with Russia for at least two weeks after seeing an abnormally large influx of migrants this month. Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo claims Russia has been directing migrants, mostly from the Middle East, to Finland in an attempt to manufacture a crisis or as retaliation for joining NATO earlier this year. Moscow has denied the allegations and Finland’s move may not be legal under international law.
