– One day after United States President Joe Biden warned of a possible Russian invasion of Ukraine next month, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in a radio interview that the country won’t start a war in Ukraine, but it also won’t let its “interests be rudely trampled on and ignored”. Russian President Vladimir Putin took part in a video call on Friday with French President Emmanuel Macron, reiterating the country’s demands for NATO not to expand into Eastern Europe. He also expressed interest for resuming peace talks for eastern Ukraine where Russian-backed separatists are fighting Ukrainian forces.

– Gas prices in Ontario and Quebec are expected to hit record-highs on the weekend. Dan McTeague, president of Canadians For Affordable Energy, told CTV News he expects the price of gas in Montreal to hit 162.9 cents per litre and in the Greater Toronto Area 152.9 cents/litre. He also said gas prices in Western Canada are not expected to change. McTeague blamed the price rises on higher crude oil prices and the diplomatic standoff between Russia and Ukraine.
– Apple Inc. reported record earnings on Thursday despite a computer chip shortage and supply chain issues, earning US$123.9 billion in the fiscal first quarter. Sales were up 11 per cent during that time period and the company also expects another double-digit percentage rise in the March quarter.
