Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was expected to meet with G7 leaders in an online summit. Meanwhile, China released a statement calling for a cease-fire and peace talks between Russia and Ukraine.
- Consumer spending in the United States was up sharply in January, raising expectations for continued interest rate hikes from the Federal Reserve. The country’s Commerce Department reported that consumer spending was up by 1.8 per cent in January compared to the previous month, surpassing market expectations for a 1.3 per cent increase.
- Search crews were looking for 47 people missing in northern China after the collapse of an open pit mine that killed at least six people and injured six more.
