Global Markets: Poland shoots down Russian drones

  • Poland’s military reported Wednesday that it had shot down Russian drones conducting an attack on Ukraine that had invaded its airspace. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk told parliament the country was in a state of war and invoked Article 4 of NATO. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte called the violation of Poland’s airspace “absolutely reckless” and not an “isolated incident.”
  • Israel’s attack on Hamas leadership in Qatar Tuesday was being met by growing condemnation, with the actions against a United States ally seen as putting negotiations to end the conflict in Gaza at risk. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney condemned the strike on in the Qatari capital of Doha in a social media post as “an intolerable expansion of violence and an affront to Qatar’s sovereignty.”
