– As world leaders repeated calls for an investigation into Russia’s targeted attacks on Ukrainian civilians, Russian missiles and shells struck the outskirts of Ukraine’s capital Kyiv and an airport near the western city of Lviv on Friday morning. The city of Lviv has been a destination for Ukrainians fleeing from the eastern part of the country. United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Thursday that officials are evaluating potential war crimes and if the targeting of civilians by Russia is confirmed, there would be “massive consequences”.

– U.S. President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping will take part in a call on Friday with the war in Ukraine expected to be the main topic of conversation. The U.S. had previously warned China that providing military or financial assistance to Russia will bring on severe consequences. China had previously accused the U.S. of provoking Russia by sending arms to Ukraine.
– New infections caused by the Omicron COVID-19 variant in Ontario are expected to increase between now and the month of May, according to new modelling revealed by the province’s COVID-19 Science Advisory Table. The number of patients in intensive care could increase by a third to 300 by May, while hospital admissions could rise by around 25 per cent to 800. However, the new modelling remains uncertain, according to members of the Advisory Table. Most mask mandates are expected to end in Ontario next week.
