– The Russian Defence Ministry announced Monday it plans to conduct military drills in the country’s northeast which will involve China from Sept. 1 to 7. The exercise will also take place in the Sea of Japan and involve more than 50,000 troops and more than 5,000 weapons units, including 140 aircraft carriers and 60 warships. Troops from India, Laos, Mongolia, Nicaragua and Syria will also take part in the drills.
– The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) announced on Monday that it will send experts to the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in the coming days. The facility, Europe’s largest of its kind, has been shelled in recent weeks, raising fears of a radiation leak. The plant has been occupied by Russian forces and operated by Ukrainian workers for months.

– Heavy rains over the weekend in the recently drought-stricken Sichuan and Chongqing provinces in China have forced tens of thousands of residents to evacuate. The rains are expected to continue until Tuesday and a flash flood warning was put in place for both Monday and Tuesday. Guanyuan City in the province of Sichuan recorded 188 millimetres of rain, one of the two cities in the province which had been affected by drought.
– A fuel leak and engine problems detected today caused the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to delay its launch of the Artemis I rocket until Friday at the earliest. The rocket was set to send an empty crew capsule into orbit around the moon, scheduled to end in October with the capsule falling into the Pacific Ocean.
