WINNIPEG, July 20 (MarketsFarm) – The following is a glance at the news moving markets in Canada and globally.

In the United States, COVID-19 deaths have surpassed 140,000, as cases continue to rise in Florida, California, Texas, and other states. Florida has reported over 10,000 new cases daily for the past five days. Schools are scheduled to reopen in a few weeks, though experts have warned cases and deaths could rise in the autumn and winter.

China is reportedly beefing up its maritime military forces, creating an organization that will “play a role similar to that of the U.S. Marine Corps,” according to Reuters. China’s shipyards have launched two amphibious ships that can carry up to 30 helicopters and 900 troops. A third ship is currently under construction.

Saudi Arabia’s King Salman bin Abdulaziz has been admitted into a hospital, reportedly due to an inflamed gall bladder. Iraq’s Prime Minister postponed a scheduled visit to Saudi Arabia following the news.
