- The United States Federal Reserve will release the minutes of its December policy meeting Wednesday afternoon, with investors expected to watch for any insight into future interest rate decisions. It’s generally expected that the Fed will continue to raise rates in 2023, but likely at a slower pace than seen in 2022.
- The U.S. Congress failed to elect a new Speaker of the House of Representatives on Tuesday, as members of Republican Kevin McCarthy’s own party blocked his bid for the second-most powerful position in the country behind the President. The standoff marks the first time in 100 years that a speaker was not elected on the first day of a new House session. Voting will continue Wednesday.
- Twitter will reportedly relax a three-year-old ban on political advertising, the social media platform announced Tuesday.
