– Inflation in the United States reached its highest point since December 1981 for a year-by-year gain of 8.5 per cent, the U.S. Labor Department announced on Tuesday. The rate of inflation increased by 1.2 percentage points, the highest monthly gain since September 2005. High-rising gasoline prices were the main reason for the inflation hike, with food and services also being major contributors. The new numbers also support the Federal Reserve’s case for increasing its key interest rate by 50 basis points in May.

– A major weather system is expected to bring at least 30 centimetres of snow to southeastern Saskatchewan and southern Manitoba over the next two days starting Tuesday evening. Blizzard conditions are very likely as the storm will also bring northerly winds gusting to 70 kilometres per hour, reducing visibility on roads to practically zero. Due to widespread drought last summer across the Prairies, the chances of a major flood in southern Manitoba, such as the “Flood of The Century” after a similar storm in 1997, is forecast to be very low.
