WINNIPEG – The following is a glance at the news moving markets in Canada and globally.

– Ukraine claimed on Thursday that its forces have sunk the Russian warship Moskva in the Black Sea with a missile strike. Russia has denied the strike, saying that a fire onboard forced the ship’s crew to evacuate. The ship typically has 500 sailors, as well as 16 missiles onboard, with many military analysts claiming that its removal would be a major defeat for Russia. Russian troops have already retreated from much of the northern parts of Ukraine, including the capital Kyiv, in favour of a renewed offensive in the eastern parts of the country.
