WINNIPEG, Aug. 22 (MarketsFarm) – The following is a glance at the news moving markets in Canada and globally.

– Ukraine issued a demand on Monday that called on Canada to cancel a special waiver regarding gas turbines are that are crucial to Germany’s natural gas imports from Russia. The statement came just as German Chancellor Olaf Scholz began his official visit to Canada. Ukraine has been highly critical of Canada for allowing the gas turbines to be repaired by Siemens Canada in Montreal. Recently, a turbine was repaired and returned to Germany, where it has yet to be sent onward to Russia, but the latter has refused to accept it. Germany is highly dependent on gas imports from Russia.

– Russia announced on Monday that it blames Ukraine for a car bombing that killed journalist Darya Dugina on Sunday. Dugina is the daughter of Russian ultra-nationalist and Putin supporter Alexander Dungin. The Russian Federal Security Service accused Ukraine of sending an agent to Moscow to kill Dugina. A spokesperson for the Ukrainian National Guard said a statement will soon be issued to clarify the incident.

– The United States suggested on Sunday that it’s prepared to resume talks with Iran over the latter’s nuclear program. U.S. President Joe Biden spoke with the leaders of France, Germany, and the United Kingdom about reviving the nuclear deal with Iran. The European powers said a recent proposal from Iran for an agreement was “constructive.” In exchange for a deal, U.S. sanctions on Iranian oil exports would be lifted.
