– U.S. President Donald Trump railed on social media on Monday, saying that Ontario was not allowed to put a 25 per cent surcharge on electricity imports into the country, which the province did on Monday. He also claimed without basis of truth that Canada was placing 250 to 390 per cent tariffs on U.S. farm products and reiterated that the U.S. doesn’t need Canadian cars, lumber and energy exports. New York governor Kathy Hochul and Senator Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) wrote in an open letter urging both the Trump administration and the Ontario government to reverse their “harmful policies”.

– Former Philippines president Rodrigo Duterte was arrested by Interpol in Manila on Tuesday after the International Criminal Court said it would investigate suspected crimes against humanity during his “war on drugs”. During his time as president from 2016 to 2022, more than 6,000 Filipinos were killed during anti-drug police operations. However, the police reject accusations of systematic executions and cover-ups. Until last year, the Philippines refused to co-operate with an ICC investigation into extrajudicial killings, which led Duterte to withdraw his country from the ICC’s founding treaty in 2019.
