WINNIPEG, August 26 – The following is a glance at the news moving markets globally.

US GDP GROWTH SLIGHTLY SLOWER IN THE SECOND-QUARTER
US gross domestic product expanded at a 1.1 per cent annual rate in the second-quarter, according to data out of the country on Friday.

Analysts had expected a greater gain, as the country’s economy expanded at a 1.2 per cent rate in July.

Stocks of unsold goods added pressure to the economy, market watchers say.

JAPAN’S HOUSING MARKET GROWS AT FASTEST PACE IN FIVE YEARS
Investment in Japan’s housing market grew at the fastest pace in five years from April to June, according to reports on Friday.

ASIAN EXPORTS SLUGGISH
Despite increases in exports from Malaysia and Thailand in June, trade contracted across a large portion of Asia, according to data on Friday.

Weaker demand from China and lower commodity prices contributed to the weaker trade data, market watchers said.
