– US jobless claims in the week ending January 28 dropped 14,000 to a seasonally adjusted 246,000, according to reports out of the country on Thursday.
Claims were below analyst expectations, which could provide support to the country’s economy this year, market watchers say.
Last week marks the 100th straight week claims have been below 300,000, which indicates a healthy labour force.
– The US Federal Reserve left interest rates unchanged following its February policy meeting. The Fed also did not touch on when it would be raising interest rates next. The news pressured the US dollar.
