WINNIPEG, April 27 – The following is a glance at the news moving markets globally.
– US jobless claims in the week ending April 22 were above analyst-expectations, according to reports out of the country, but still indicate a healthy labour force.
Claims were up by 14,000 last week, to a seasonally adjusted 257,000, the country’s labour department said.
Jobless claims have been below 300,000 for 112 consecutive weeks.
– Average weekly earnings of non-farm payroll employees in Canada were C$968 in February, little changed from January and up 1.5 per cent from 12 months earlier, Statistics Canada said in a report on Thursday.
In general, changes in weekly earnings reflect a number of factors, including wage growth; changes in the composition of employment by industry, occupation and level of job experience; and average hours worked per week.
