– The value of building permits issued by Canadian municipalities rose 5.4 per cent to C$7.6 billion in January, following two consecutive monthly decreases. Six provinces posted increases, led by Alberta and British Columbia. Nationally, construction intentions rose in every component, particularly institutional buildings, Statistics Canada said in a report on Wednesday.
– US worker productivity increased at a slower rate in the fourth-quarter, according to reports out of the country on Wednesday.
The American labour department said nonfarm productivity rose at an annualized 1.3 per cent rate in the last three months of 2016, which is slower than the previous quarter’s pace and below analyst expectations.
