Heartland Livestock in Virden, Man.

This last week saw 2,260 head through the ring at Heartland Livestock in Virden, Man., with 90 per cent of those cattle being feeders and 10 per cent calves. Forty per cent of cattle went to southern Alberta buyers, 30 per cent stayed local, 20 per cent headed east and 10 per cent to the U.S.

Good moisture sparked buyer interest, bringing grass cattle to new levels. Big volumes made for one heck of a sale!

Steer prices as follows:

  • 400-500 lb. ranged from $410-$495.
  • 500-600 lb. ranged from $410-$490.
  • 600-700 lb. ranged from $390-$450.
  • 700-800 lb. ranged from $340-$395.
  • 800-1,000 lb. ranged from $305-$355.

Heifers as follows:

  • 400-600 lb. from $360-$410.
  • 600-700 lb. from $305-$355.
  • 700-800 lb. from $295-$345.
  • 800-1,000 lb. from $260-$310.

Cows were $155-$190 and bulls from $195-$225.
