Each year, the Canadian Junior Shorthorn Association awards two successful junior applicants with $1,000 scholarships to aid in their post-secondary studies. The 2024 recipients are Abigail Tilleman of Crossfield, Alta.,and Heidi McFadden of Douro-Dummer, Ont.
Tilleman is studying in her second year of agri-business at the University of Saskatchewan. Once she has obtained her degree, she plans to further her education at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology in the butchery management program. She brings a great deal of dedication and aspires to operate her own farm-to-table butcher shop once she has completed her schooling.
McFadden is completing grade twelve in Peterborough, Ont. Following high school, she has chosen the University of Guelph as her next point of study in the agricultural engineering program. Her inspiration to take the course stems from her extensive experience and accomplishments in computer coding. Her long-term goal is to merge her passions for cattle and technology to be able to help create further innovations in the agricultural industry.
