Brian Good, Red Deer, Alta., the recently retired fieldman for the Canadian Angus Association, passed away on July 19 at the age of 68. Many beef industry people had informally bestowed the title of “Mr. Angus” upon him. We extend our condolences to his family and friends.
Good had served Angus cattle producer for nearly 21 years. He was the face of the breed across Canada at auction marts, sales, events and in the pastures, noted the Canadian Angus Association in an announcement. Good also represented the Canadian Angus Association abroad: China, Mexico, Russia, the United Kingdom and the U.S.
A lifelong cattleman, Good was raised on the family’s purebred Angus operation, Black Browe Cattle Co., along the eastern slopes of the Red Deer River valley, just west of the city. After the family sold the main herd in 1991, Good continued to operate as Allwest Ranch. He then began working in the beef cattle export business with Gary Smith, Wimborne, Alta., at semen sales with Harry Haney at Independent Breeders Service, Airdrie, and then in sales management with both Doug Henderson, Lacombe, and Rob Holowaychuk, Red Deer. All are now deceased.
