Canadian Angus Association convention highlights

More than 200 Angus enthusiasts gathered in Saskatoon, Sask., June 8 through 10 for the Canadian Angus Association National Convention and AGM. 

The board includes Tom deWaal of Prince George, B.C., as president; Ronnie Ford of Oyster Bed, P.E.I., as president-elect; Graham McLean of Watford, Ont., as past president. Rounding out the board are Blake Morton of Craigmyle, Alta.; Mona Howe of Cypress County, Alta.; Greg Pugh of Edgerton, Alta.; Roger Reynolds of Emerald Park, Sask.; Rob Garner of Simpson, Sask.; Dallas Johnston of Brookdale, Man.; David Sample of Havelock, Que.; Darren Ippolito of Kisbey, Sask.; and B.J. Scheirlinck of Del Bonita, Alta. 

Former staff member Brian Good was the first inductee in the Canadian Angus Hall of Fame. Good retired from CAA in 2021 after nearly 21 years of service. Good passed away in August 2022; his wife Lynanne and his children, Tracy and Kevin, attended the banquet to accept the award.

Certified Angus Beef’s Commitment to Excellence Award was presented to JP and Marlene Monvoisin and family of Gravelbourg, Sask., at the convention banquet. 

In partnership with Vanessa Wineries of the Similkameen Valley, B.C., world-renowned master winemaker Howard Soon crafted the perfect wine to be paired with Angus beef. Genuine Angus will be available at select Angus events this year. 

At the National Convention Banquet on Saturday evening, awards for 50 years of continuous Canadian Angus Association membership were presented to: 

  • Peter and Maxine Schmaltz, Beiseker Red Angus, Rocky View County, Alta.
  • George and Laura Baxter, Count Ridge Stock Farms, Bassano, Alta.
  • Frederick Welch, Garvie Farms, Glassville, N.B.
  • The Penosky family, Lindon Angus, Botha, Alta.
  • The Ippolito Family, Moose Creek Red 

Angus, Kisbey, Sask.Awards for 75 years of continuous membership were presented to:

  • The Davis family, ARDA Farms, Acme, Alta.
  • The Warrilow family, Minburn Angus, Minburn, Alta.
  • The Trowbridge family, Southern Angus Farm, Fort Macleod, Alta.
