The Canadian Angus Association (CAA) is partnering with the American Angus Association and Kansas State University on a male fertility project. Fertility is the primary factor affecting operation profitability and sustainability. Bulls contribute to an operation’s reproductive success and profitability and a substantial opportunity exists to improve male fertility.
This five-year project will study existing beef bull fertility data to better understand the genetics of male fertility. The CAA invites members to submit semen test information for use in this project. The association has a spreadsheet that can be completed by producers or their vets. The CAA asks producers to include complete group information for all bulls tested (those who passed and those who did not). Producer information and animal identification will be masked.
For more information or to submit semen test data, please contact Kajal Devani, CAA director of science and technology, at [email protected] or 403- 537-5604.
