John “Bud” McBride passed away peacefully on March 18, 2025, at the age of 96.

McBride was born to humble beginnings on July 20, 1928, in a granary converted into a family home on a section of land south of Benalto, Alta. He was the oldest of five children of Jack and Lillian McBride and grew up clearing the section of land of trees and developing the family farm. His mother named the farm Riverbend, and the family eventually took a strong interest in the Angus breed.

McBride’s great passion was for Angus cattle and he was known as a fine cattleman, making many contributions to the beef industry throughout his life. He enjoyed sharing his love of livestock and gave freely of his time as a 4-H leader, giving presentations to clubs throughout Alberta. McBride showed cattle internationally and was often asked to judge at various cattle shows including the Toronto Royal Winter Fair. He was inducted into the Alberta Angus Hall of Fame in 2007.

Condolences to Jack Anderson’s loved ones on his passing

John “Jack” Corbett Anderson, born in Edmonton, Alta., on October 28, 1927, passed away peacefully at 97, with family by…

McBride married the love of his life, Barbara Clucas, his diamond from Diamond Valley, in 1959, and they recently celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary. Together they built their farm and cattle herd, travelled extensively on Angus and Limousin cattle business, accompanied the Queen Mother at the World Angus Forum and served at their local church for many years as they raised their family at Riverbend.

McBride was highly regarded for his skill in operating equipment as well as being an accomplished private pilot.

He appreciated and lived the quote: “Purpose is the reason for the journey, passion is the fire that lights the way.”

He loved life, his family, the cattle business, his Lord and Saviour, and he devotedly cared for his wife in her infirmity. Bud has gone home to glory, and we rejoice in that. John 3:16.

He was predeceased by his father and mother, Jack and Lillian, and his brother, Jim.

The family would like to thank Connie and the private caregivers as well as the care providers at Bethany Care Centre in Sylvan Lake for their compassionate care and support over the past few years.

Contributions can be made to the memorial fund at Samaritans Purse Canada, 20 Hopewell Way NE Calgary, Alta., T3J 5H5.

From all of us at Canadian Cattlemen, our condolences to the McBride family.
