Our condolences to the Harvey family of Hi-Valley Limousin at 100 Mile House, B.C., on the loss of David Harvey.

Harvey is survived by his wife Linda and daughters, Bobbi, Karen and Tanya, along with their families and numerous grandchildren.

Harvey was born in Princeton, B.C., the oldest of five children. During his upbringing, his father’s work in construction led the family to move throughout B.C., eventually settling in Burnaby. It was there he met Linda and they married in 1968. Their union was blessed with three beautiful daughters. In 1978, the family relocated to 100 Mile House, B.C.

Growing Canada’s beef herd: CCA’s priorities working with new federal government

This is my first column since the federal election. The Canadian Cattle Association works with all elected officials and parliamentarians, regardless…

They fell in love with the Limousin breed in the early 4-H years, with their girls always doing well with Limo steers, and decided to include more of this great breed in their cow herd.

They first purchased a purebred Limousin heifer from Bridge Lake Limousin in February of 1988. They liked the breed for being easy keepers, its good maternal traits and eye appeal.

In the early years, all their breeding was done by artificial insemination. Then, over the years, they included herd sires from reputable breeders such as Nordal Limousin, Stewart Limousin and Ivy Livestock. Artificial insemination still plays a small part, as they are look for the best genetics available.

Harvey was known to have a generous heart for family and friends, welcoming everyone with open arms and a big smile. He was not only a cattleman, but enjoyed growing lettuce, potatoes and raspberries. From what I understood, the real reason he grew raspberries was he had a bit of a sweet tooth and Linda made home- made raspberry jam that he enjoyed, along with a doughnut or piece of blueberry pie.

In honouring Dave Harvey’s memory, the family asks that friends and family continue his legacy of love, kindness, and compassion.

A celebration of Harvey’s life will be held this summer at their farm in 100 Mile House. The date is yet to be determined.
