Wilf Sieger, 99, the former president of the Canadian Charolais Association (CCA), passed away October 10, 2022, in Coronation, Alta. We offer our condolences to his friends and family.

Sieger was CCA president from 1978 to 1980. He may have been best known as president for cutting the ribbon for the grand opening of the new CCA office in NE Calgary in 1978. Now 44 years later, the office still stands, marked with a huge white fibreglass bull outside.

Sieger ran WilDor Farms Ltd. at Coronation with his wife Doris (hence the name: WilDor) and family. He began using the new exotic white bulls in 1958. From that start, he raised and marketed industry-leading sires such as WilDor Maverick and WilDor Raven. Breeders can still find evidence of those bloodlines in current-day pedigrees.

Growing Canada’s beef herd: CCA’s priorities working with new federal government

This is my first column since the federal election. The Canadian Cattle Association works with all elected officials and parliamentarians, regardless…

WilDor was also involved in the renowned Charolais Conception to Consumer (C-C) program. In the C-C regime, commercial Charolais steers and heifers were tested in feedlots for weight gains and feed conversion. The program gave early credibility to the use and value of the Charolais purebred bull.

Sieger was a farmer at heart and enjoyed a good day of fieldwork. He loved a humourous quip and had an easy laugh.

Predeceased by Doris in 2016, Sieger will be remembered by his children: Wes Sieger, Marina (Bill) Schmidt, Colleen Taylor, and Wes (JoAnn) and their extended families.
