Gary Latimer passes
Our condolences to the Latimer family on the passing of Gary Louis Latimer. Latimer, of Remitall Farms fame, was a cattleman known to many and loved by all.
After speaking with Michael Latimer from the Canadian Hereford Association, we both had a chuckle reminiscing about how many of us from Olds College and area had helped out at Remitall’s bull sale over the years, while Louis and Gary kept us in line. It was always lots of fun. As they say, the good ones always go too soon.

Condolences to Jim Wideman’s loved ones
The Livestock Markets Association of Canada was sad to hear Jim Wideman passed away while in Florida. Wideman was a legend in the livestock market world. He was on the original board of directors for the Livestock Markets Association of Canada and remained active with the association for 40 years, serving as president and secretary-treasurer. He was inducted into the association’s Hall of Fame in 2013. Wideman also represented the association on national and international committees.
Wideman started in the livestock marketing industry in 1973 as a partner in the Waterloo County Stockyards. The company soon merged with another local firm and the Ontario Livestock Exchange (OLEX) was formed. Wideman was president of OLEX from 1977 to 1996.
He was a pioneer in the electronic marketing of livestock, developing software packages that were sold and marketed around the world. His software was a forerunner of the electronic platforms used today in Canada. He was also very involved in community politics in the Waterloo area, serving on many boards and committees.
The Livestock Markets Association of Canada board and members offer heartfelt condolences to the Wideman family at this difficult time.
