Winnipeg, October 30 (CNS) – The Saskatchewan Pulse Growers
board of directors’ election is currently underway until Nov.
24. Three candidates, Lynnda Berg, Jean Harrington and Corey
Loessin, are vying for two spots. Voter information has been
mailed to farmers.
Lentil prices in Australia have dropped this year as
government policy in India and Canada’s pulse harvest has
affected markets, according to Queensland Country Life. Lentil
prices have fallen to between AUD$440 to $460 per tonne,
compared to AUD$700 per tonne last year.
Pulse inventories in Ukraine are down from this time last
year, according to UkrAgroConsult. As of Oct. 1 inventories were
down 14.3 per cent from the same time last year.
Dry bean production in the northern United States has
reached a new record high this year, according to the
Northarvest Bean Growers Association. A significant increase in
harvested area bumped dry bean production to 35.3 million
hundredweight. This is 6.6 million cwt more than the 2016
production estimate. A total of eight out of 11 states said they
had increased production in 2017.
