WINNIPEG, Sept 28 (CNS Canada) – Virtually all pulses in Saskatchewan have been harvested, according to the latest provincial crop report released Sept. 28. About 99 per cent of lentils, 99 per cent of peas and 88 per cent of chickpeas have been harvested. Lentils and chickpeas were experiencing yield problems due to the extreme dry temperatures in southern areas, but quality was reported as good, although with some smaller seed sizes.

India expects to harvest a large crop of kharif pulses this year of 8.7 million tonnes. That’s below last year’s production of 9.4 million tonnes but much higher than the five-year average of 5.6 million tonnes.
With large stockpiles already on hand pressuring farmgate prices, some analysts suggest the Indian government may soon start to sell off some of its pulses in storage.

The United States dry bean, pea and lentil market update reports slow trading activity with moderate demand. Colorado’s dry bean harvest is about 36 per cent done, Idaho 87, Washington 84, North Dakota 58, Minnesota 69, Nebraska 58, Michigan 29 and Wyoming 51.
