Winnipeg, October 18 (CNS) – The South Dakota Department of
Agriculture has awarded around $290,000 to six speciality crop
projects in the state. The funds come from the United States
Department of Agriculture’s Speciality Crop Block Grant Program.
Some of the special crops grown in South Dakota include lentils,
chickpeas and fruits for juices, among others.
According to the USDA National Agricultural Statistics
Service harvest of dry beans, peas and lentils is wrapping up in
some parts of the northern U.S. Harvest is 84 per cent complete
in Colorado and Michigan, 96 per cent in Minnesota, 75 per cent
in Nebraska, 94 per cent in North Dakota and 79 per cent in
Wyoming.
The aquaculture industry in Australia has helped to keep the
faba bean industry buoyant, after lackluster interest from
Egypt, traditionally the biggest export market for Australian
faba beans, had been causing concern.
