Pulse Report: U.S. bean exports to Central America increase

Winnipeg, October 19 (CNS) – United States dry bean exports
to Central America are continuing an upward trend, according to
the U.S. Dry Bean Council. Exports to Costa Rica, Panama, El
Salvador and Guatemala are all up significantly this year.
Exports to Panama are up over 60 per cent to 5,000 tonnes, up 48
per cent to Guatemala to 3,370 tonnes and 57 per cent to El
Salvador to 3,289 tonnes.
An Israeli start up, Equinom, has developed pulse crops
which contain more than 50 per cent more protein than current
commercial varieties. The company managed to increase the
protein content of chickpeas, lentils, cowpeas, mung beans and
yellow peas, without decreasing the yield.
Turkey has imposed new restrictions on Russian agricultural
imports to the country. Invoices for Russian exports to Turkey
must be attested by the Turkish Trade Mission in Russia. This
requirement applies to deliveries of peas, wheat, corn and rice.
