Winnipeg, Dec. 22 (CNS Canada) – Canada only exported 4,200 tonnes of peas during the week ended Dec. 17, taking the year-to-date total to 930,200 tonnes, according to Canadian Grain Commission data. That’s about 800,000 tonnes behind the exports reported during the same time period the previous year.
Pulse seedings in India are up by about nine per cent on the year, with 14.6 million hectares seeded during the rabi season to date, according to data from the country’s Agriculture Ministry. That compares with 13.4 million at the same time a year ago.
Number 2 large green laird lentils are currently topping out at about 30 cents per pound, while red lentil bids range from about 17 to 19 cents per pound.
Green pea bids range from C$7.00 to C$8.00 per bushel in Western Canada, while yellow peas top out at C$7.25 per bushel.
Large calibre (10mm) kabuli chickpeas are currently seeing prices as high as 75 cents per pound, according to reports.
