Winnipeg, Aug. 30 (CNS Canada) – The pulse harvest is moving northwards in the United Kingdom, with yields generally better than the previous year but below earlier expectations after mixed conditions during the growing season, according to a report from the British Edible Pulse Association. Pea yields range from two to six tonnes per hectare, while edible beans range from about four to eight tonnes per hectare. Quality was reportedly an issue in the south, with more beans than normal likely destined for feed channels.

A large pulse harvest in India has seen the country impose import restrictions on pulses from Myanmar (Burma), according to a report from the Indian embassy. While the quotas should underpin the prices seen by Indian farmers, Myanmar relies heavily on sales to its neighbour India and prices there have dropped sharply.
Number 2 large green laird lentils are currently topping out at about 43 cents per pound, according to Prairie Ag Hotwire data. Red lentil bids range from about 20 to 24 cents per pound.
Top-end green pea bids range from C$8.00 to C$8.75 per bushel in Western Canada, while yellow peas range from C$7.25 to C$8.15 per bushel.
Large calibre (10mm) kabuli chickpeas are currently seeing prices as high as 68 cents per pound in some cases.
