Quebec hog genetics firm Genetiporc has expanded its distribution into Ontario through a new agreement with feed company Jones Feed Mills.
“This new agreement will allow Genetiporc to develop their sales in conjunction with the well known and respected team at Jones Feed Mill, with the support of Jerry Koert, Ontario sales representative for Genetiporc,” the Quebec company said in a release.
“It is very important for Genetiporc to be linked to an Ontario-based company who clearly understands the market signs and business opportunities,” Genetiporc added. “The resulting synergy will be of benefit to both companies.”

U.S. livestock: Cattle strength continues
Cattle futures on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange were stronger on Friday, hitting fresh highs to end the week.
The announcement came at an official launch last week during the Ontario Pork Congress in Stratford, when Genetiporc president Christian Breton and Jones Feed Mill president Jeff Jones explained their new arrangement.
Genetiporc, a division of pork, poultry and feed company Breton Foods, is based at St-Bernard, about 40 km south of Quebec City, with offices in Winnipeg and at Alexandria, Minn., about 200 km northwest of Minneapolis. It also maintains offices in Mexico and Brazil.
Genetiporc’s “vertical integration” with the feed, production, slaughter and processing industries “positions the company to offer superior technical support,” the company said on its website.
Apart from its operations in Canada, the U.S., Brazil and Mexico, the company says it does business in the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Panama, Chile, Colombia, China and the Philippines. Its Winnipeg office is its point of contact for markets in Western Europe and Asia.
Jones Feed Mills, headquartered at Linwood, Ont., about 25 km northwest of Kitchener, operates a full-service feed mill at Linwood, a “drug-free” feed mill at nearby Heidelberg, and a mill for identity-preserved (IP) and non-genetically modified (non-GMO) livestock feed at nearby Wroxeter.
The company’s services include nutritional consulting and custom formulations and rations as well as domestic and international delivery of feed, pet food and other products.
