“Oh give me a home where the buffalo roam,
And the deer and the antelope play.
Where never is heard a discouraging word,
And the sky is not cloudy all day.”
‘”Home on the Range” caries many memories to the men, women and their children who participated in the early activities of the livestock industry on the vast open ranges of the West. After the fur traders and missionaries, the mining and livestock industries were the forerunners of the settlement and development of the great unsettled North American continent commonly referred to as “out West.” The major part of the earlier settlement and development was done on horseback. It was in the ’70’s that the range cattle business commenced in the Province of British Columbia, cattle were trailed earlier to the mining camps along the Cariboo Road.’
