– Justin Trudeau’s Liberals won a minority government in Monday’s Canadian seats election, taking 157 seats. With 170 seats needed for a majority, the balance of power is held by the left leaning NDP at 24 seats and the Bloc Quebecois at 32 seats. The right-leaning Conservatives, led by Andrew Scheer, took 121 seats and will form the official opposition. The Liberals now have no representation in Alberta or Saskatchewan, with long-time Liberal MP Ralph Goodale losing his seat in Regina.
– Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held talks about Syria with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Sochi on Tuesday. The Turkish leader has threatened to intensify actions against Kurdish fighters in northern Syria as a five-day ceasefire in the region is set to expire.
– With an Oct. 31 deadline looming, United Kingdom Prime Minister Boris Johnson is threatening to scrap a tentative Brexit bill and instead push for a new federal election.
