The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention posted an update on Wednesday which promised some COVID-19 vaccines will be available before the end of 2020. Initial supplies would be limited, but increase during the weeks and months following the release. Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Health’s National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, has committed to a more conservative estimate, expecting vaccines to be widely available by April 2021.

French President Emmanuel Macron has imposed a nightly curfew in Paris and eight other large French cities in order to tackle the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. He said the virus was spreading at parties and private gatherings, threatening to overwhelm the health care system. The curfew will take place from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. until Dec. 1.
China has accused the U.S. of “undermining peace and unity” after a U.S. Navy destroyer sailed through the Taiwan Strait. The move comes as tensions escalate between Taiwan and Beijing. A spokesperson for the Chinese government said the U.S. sent “misleading signals” to people in Taiwan, while the U.S. Pacific Fleet said “The U.S. Navy will continue to fly, sail and operate anywhere international law allows.”
