WINNIPEG, Dec. 15 (MarketsFarm) – The following is a glance at the news moving markets in Canada and globally.

British scientists have attribute over 1,000 cases of COVID-19 in southern England as having a mutation of the virus, which may cause the virus to spread more easily between people, though they are not yet certain if the mutation makes the virus more severe. As batches of vaccines are being distributed around the world, it’s unclear if the vaccine will be effective against the new strain.

Boko Haram has claimed responsibility for abducting hundreds of students from an all-boys school in Katsina, Nigeria. The exact number of students is unclear, though local media asserts all 333 pupils were missing after the raid.

The Energy Information Administration (IEA) has forecast that a crude oil glut will last for another year, as markets try to work through supplies built up during the COVID-19 pandemic. Optimism around vaccine distribution has boosted futures higher since the end of October.
