WINNIPEG, Dec. 13 (MarketsFarm) – The following is a glance at the news moving markets in Canada and globally.

– Canadian Minister of Finance Chrystia Freeland and Bank of Canada (BoC) Governor Tiff Macklem are scheduled to announce the central bank’s new direction in combating inflation on Monday. Expectations are the BoC will be permitted to be more flexible in trying to keep inflation to no more than three per cent per year. However, the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on Canada’s economy have led to the highest inflation in 18 years.

– A series of tornadoes wrought havoc upon Kentucky on Friday evening with at least 80 confirmed deaths, with dozens of more fatalities in other states. One tornado is said to have traveled a path of about 365 kilometres. United States President Joe Biden declared a major federal disaster in Kentucky, which suffered from the worst tornadoes in its history.

– Time Magazine announced on Monday it has selected Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, as their person of the year. “In 2021, Musk emerged not just as the world’s richest person, but also as perhaps the richest example of a massive shift in our society,” Time Editor-in-Chief Edward Felsenthal said to CNN. A massive increase in Tesla shares propelled the brash and controversial Musk to becoming the world’s richest person and SpaceX marked the first-ever mission to orbit the planet with only tourists.

– In a thrilling end, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers came from behind to win the 108th Grey Cup 33 to 25 against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Sunday in Hamilton, Ont. In overtime, the Bombers scored the winning touchdown and intercepted a TiCat pass to clinch their first back-to-back Grey Cup wins since 1961-62.
