– The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced on Monday it has reduced the number of days needed for American diagnosed with COVID-19 and close contacts to self-isolate from 10 to five. The CDC said this was done due to growing evidence that people with the coronavirus were most infectious two days before and three days after the onset of symptoms. While there are strong indications the Omicron variant may cause milder illness, it is more infectious than other variants, threatening the abilities of essential services to stay open.

– Japan said on Tuesday that the defence ministers of Japan and China have agreed to set up a joint communication hotline by the end of 2022. – The Iran-backed rebel Houthi group in Yemen said on Tuesday it will allow United Nations humanitarian flights to land at the airport of the country’s capital of Sanaa. The Houthis, who control Sanaa and Yemen’s northern regions, had barred humanitarian flights from entering the country amid air strikes by Saudi Arabia and the Houthi’s own missile and drone attacks on the kingdom. Yemen has been in civil war since 2014 and a Saudi-led coalition entered the conflict in 2015.
