– NATO said on Monday it plans to send more fighter jets and ships, as well as extra forces on standby to Ukraine in an effort to “deter” a conflict between the country and Russia. Over the weekend, the United States and the United Kingdom withdrew their embassy personnel and their families from Ukraine. Russia has amassed approximately 100,000 troops on its border with Ukraine, but has repeatedly denied it will invade the country. Political advisers from Russia, Ukraine, France and Germany will meet in Paris on Jan. 26 for talks regarding the standoff.

– The Canadian Trucking Alliance (CTA), a federation representing truckers in Canada, has denounced a planned series of protests against the federal government’s vaccine mandate for those travelling to and from the United States. A convoy of truckers from British Columbia is expected to join other drivers for a protest at Parliament Hill on Jan. 29, but some truckers have had demonstrations at border crossings. According to the CTA and the American Trucking Associations, up to 26,000 drivers out of the 160,000 travelling across the border would be sidelined.
– Turkish manufacturing companies have stopped production after a technical issue prevented gas flows from Iran on Thursday for up to 10 days. A fault at a pressure-boosting station in Turkey is reportedly to blame, although the Turkish government denies this claim. Gas exports from Iran resumed on Friday, but lower than the required volumes. Turkish authorities have announced planned 72-hour electricity and natural gas cuts to large consumers in industrial zones and power plants due to the limited supply.
