The Canadian Simmental Association’s Award of Excellence program was established in 2017 to promote and recognize the top registered bulls and females in the Simmental breed that are exhibited at any of the 14 designated shows across the country each year. The registered bulls and females exhibited at these shows are recognized based on a calculated points system, determined by show placings from one to 10 in each class. Points differ based on the size of the show and with the number of cattle exhibited. Extra points are also given to the Grand and Reserve Division Champions and to the overall Grand and Reserve Champions.
In the fall of 2021, the Friends of Canadian Simmental Foundation purchased a beef carcass display. It offers 4-H clubs, students and adults a butcher beef cut model that is half the size of a steer and separated into quarter section models. The model depicts the most popular cuts of beef, and a curriculum covering how to identify, prep and cook these cuts.
In 2023, the educational display has already been used by 10 groups. Because of its popularity the foundation has purchased a second display which will be housed in Eastern Canada. If anybody is interested in using the display, please email the Simmental office at [email protected].
