WINNIPEG, January 13 – The following is a glance at the news moving markets globally.
– US retail sales advanced in December, according to reports out of the country on Friday.
America’s retail sales increased by 0.6 per cent last month, propped up by stronger auto demand.
Sales were well-ahead of year-ago levels, and gave analysts indications that spending was strong in the fourth-quarter.
– The New Lending Services Price Index increased 3.3 per cent in the third quarter, following a one per cent decrease in the previous quarter. Decreases in the interest rate spread for individual loans were offset by increases in the interest rate spread for business loans, notably for variable-rate and fixed-rate business loans for a term of less than one year, Statistics Canada said in a report on Friday.
The index was up 5.2 per cent in the third quarter compared with the same quarter in 2015.
