Winnipeg, February 22 – Prices for lentils on the Prairies
suffered wide-spread losses over the past week, according to the
Prairie Ag Hotwire. Laird number one lentils fell 11 cents to
between 51 to 58 cents per bushel. Number two and X3 varieties
also fell 7-10 cents. Eston number one lentils fell 10.5 cents
to a range of 48 to 55 cents per pound. Eston number three
varieties dropped by 13 cents to 26 to 30 cents per pound. All
four varieties of Richlea lentils lost ground too with number

Prices for Kabuli chickpeas (10mm) fell 12 cents to hit a
range of 47 to 52 cents per pound. Kabuli 8mm varieties dropped
14 cents to a range of 34.5 to 36 cents per pound.
Prices for kidney beans in North Dakota fell two cents on
the week to 45 cents per pound. Bids for Great Northern beans in
Colorado also dipped by two cents on the week to 36.8 cents per
pound.
Russian pea exports dropped significantly in the month of
January, according to statistics from the government. The
country shipped 36 percent less peas than the previous month.
Russia exported just 17,700 tonnes of peas in January compared
to the December total of 27,900 tonnes. A reduction in Turkish
buying was a key reason for the downgrade, as the Middle Eastern
nation purchased just 3,200 tonnes in January, compared to
11,600 tonnes in December. As well, a number of European
customers, Italy, Norway, Austria and Latvia didn’t buy any
supplies at all, according to a report by APK-Inform.
