Feed Grains: Russian spring seeding starting up

WINNIPEG, March 13 (CNS Canada) – Spring seeding is just getting underway in Russia, with 0.1 per cent of intended acres in the ground as of March 7, according to a report from UkrAgroConsult.

Crop conditions in Russia for the winter cereals are looking good, with only five per cent of the 17.4 million hectares planted rated ‘poor’, according to the country’s agriculture ministry.

General Mills is moving forward with plans to commercialize a perennial grain, Kernza (intermediate wheatgrass).

Chicago Board of Trade corn futures were down on Monday, as large South American crops, spillover from wheat, and chart-based fund selling all weighed on prices.

Feed barley bids in the key cattle feeding area of Lethbridge, Alberta were in the C$155 to C$162 per tonne range as of March 10, which were steady compared to the previous week, according to the latest pricing information from the provincial government. Top end feed wheat prices were steady, at C$175 to C$180 per tonne in Lethbridge.
