WINNIPEG, March 30 The Canadian dollar was softer relative to the US dollar Monday morning, as crude oil values continued to tumble, analysts said.

At 8:49 CDT Monday, the Canadian dollar was at US$0.7907 or US$=C$1.2647, which compares with Friday’s North American close of US$0.7937 or US$1=C$1.2600.

General strength in the US dollar index also weighed on the Canadian dollar, as did weakness in gold prices.

Though, positive Canadian economic data limited the downside. Statistic Canada said the industrial price product index rose 1.8 per cent in February, beating expectations of a 0.5 per cent jump.

The TSX was up 48.97 points, or 0.33%, at 8:51 CDT Monday morning to sit at 14,861.39.
