A ground-breaking Quebec-based dairy processor is getting a bit of government help in the form of a repayable loan to acquire new equipment to bolster productivity.

Fromagerie L’Ancêtre Inc. will be getting $480,000 in “repayable funding” from Canada Economic Development through a business and regional growth program.

Fromagerie L’Ancêtre was founded in 1992 by a group of 10 dairy producers committed to the resurrection of ecological production methods and processes. Considered a leading pioneer in its field, the enterprise now specializes in the manufacture of organic products for national distribution and processes organic milk from some 20 Quebec dairy farms.

To maintain its role as an industry leader, this innovative firm reinvests 3% of its annual revenues in research and development,” explained Denis Lebel, the minister of state responsible for CED.

Fromagerie L’Ancêtre intends to use the funds to acquire higher-performance speciality equipment and inventory management software. This agri-food enterprise operates in a sector that has been identified as a regional priority by Canada Economic Development’s Centre-du-Québec business office.
