New Brunswick’s deputy minister of economic development will also be the province’s senior bureaucrat for agriculture and fisheries as part of a shuffle announced Tuesday.
Denis Caron, who has led the provincial civil service on the economic development file since September last year, will now also handle the ag file on an interim basis, Premier Brian Gallant said.
On the ag and fisheries file, Caron will report to Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries Minister Rick Doucet — who is also Gallant’s minister for economic development and for trade policy.

Caron will also continue to serve as president of the province’s Regional Development Corporation, and is also now tasked with winding down the operations of Invest NB, as per one of the Liberals’ campaign pledges. Gallant on Tuesday also promised further restructuring to reduce the number of government departments, deputy ministers and “other senior executives.”
As interim deputy ag minister, Caron replaces Robert Rioux, who moves to the tourism, heritage and culture portfolio.
Rioux in turn replaces Greg Lutes, one of six deputy ministers who left the public service shortly before Gallant’s Liberal government was sworn in earlier this month. — AGCanada.com Network
