WINNIPEG, Dec. 4 The Canadian dollar was up slightly compared to the US dollar amid choppy two-sided activity Thursday morning.
At 8:54 CST Thursday the Canadian dollar was at U.S.$0.8807 or U.S.$=C$1.1355, which compares with Wednesday’s North American close of U.S.$0.8798 or U.S.$=C$1.1366.
Wednesday’s optimistic messaging from the Bank of Canada, as they noted the Canadian economy looks to be staging an economic recovery, was supportive.
Though, weakness in commodities, such as gold and crude oil were bearish, as were ongoing worries about slow economic growth in Europe and China, analysts said.
The TSX was down 30.48 points, or 0.21%, at 8:54 CST Thursday morning to sit at 14,723.58.
